  • 7 reasons why you should visit the beach

Silence Oh. I have been running away from you You have been my guidance, to eternal peace it's true When the words play the game of life, on the sandy beaches of mind She gave me the strength to fly away like a wind for a cloud in the sky Why you should visit the beach Reason 1: Because it takes courage to look at the sky. For an ordinary man, or a woman, it takes courage to look at the sky . Remember when we were kids, there was never a day that we did not spot an eagle or a cloud. Now, when we are pressed in between our work and responsibilities there is never a time to look at the sky. But the beach, at the beach you even do not have to look at the sky. The sky meets the ocean at the horizon, even if your neck is fixed with a stable gaze parallel to the ground, you would be able to see the sky and the clouds. Often, I find without an effort the eyes start to drift towards the sky looking for those lost clouds. Reason 2: Watching the waves. It is fun to watch the waves. Do not believe me? I have written a whole article on watching the waves and learning life lessons from this . However, even without life lessons you can just watch the waves. Longer you look at them you will notice they convey the same message as drifting clouds up above . Life is a buoy on a wave. It ups and downs with happiness. Memories fade away like footsteps of strangers on the beach. If you would come back tomorrow even the sandcastles would not be there. I still do feel like a kid playing on the beach, making castles- real ones, only hoping that they would not wash away with time. Reason 3: End of the land. If you want to run away from life, you should run away either into a library or to the beach. If you run into a library, you would improve your vocabulary and come out as a poet one day. If you run away to the beach like when the forest gump did, you would learn the lesson of life. You will learn the lesson of life that there is no place to run away. Nobody lives in the sea, not for long. So, there you will have to turn back. At the beach, you can feel all your problems, all your memories are just behind, on the land. You are at the edge, at the unknown future. Spend some time there, and it will clear your head. It will make you just a little bit wiser a man when you return to your problems back again. Reason 4: Plenty of life. On a busy Sunday, there would be plenty of people, at the beach. You may not seek this company, but I am sure you will still find a peaceful corner. Even if you did not, you can just stay at a one place and watch. You will start to notice, the people, they come and go, come and go like ants. You will start to notice, the sea, remains the same, the sandy beach remains the same, and you and the sky remains the same. There you will find peace, when you are a constant, not a variable in the picture. Do you know who else will be there on the beach? Crabs. Plenty of them. So, truly speaking you can never be alone on a beach. You will have to share the beach with plenty of other life, human or not. If you are an animal lover, you may find many both in the water and on the sand. It might make you smile, a crab crawling out fast before the next waves hit, or spotting a fish in the shallow water. You do not have to do snorkeling or diving, to see life as it is. A pair of good eyes and a childish curiosity is handy. Reason 5: Golden hour rush Sun is soft, when it just pops up from the far horizon, in the early morning hours. Just like a little child, who smiles and dance innocently, the sun would play some time until it passes into teenage times and into the youth at noon. Like the miracle of life, just to be soft again in the evening, before it hides from our sight. Again, at the end of its death, the sun would be soft, clam and be innocent like a child, forgetting all the havoc it played when it was a bright silver star in midday. Take your time to go through all of it, never in a rush to leave , otherwise you will miss it. Reason 6: natural fan - the breeze The wind at the beach is a natural fan. You can fly a kite even if it is not meant for flying. However, what I like most is how it plays on my face and the body. The wind will touch your face like it does touch on your dog, when it peeps out from the window when you drive it to the wet! Did you see the smile on the eyes of the dog? You really do not have to jump from a 1000m cliff, to feel the breeze, risking your life. At the beach, the feeling would be provided even if you are stationary with zero risk. Try it next time, and smile to yourself when it tosses your hair. Reason 7: natural mindfulness Just like the breeze, the mindfulness is natural on places like beach. Just like James Clear claims in his TEDx talks, changing your environment changes our habits. One thing I noticed when I am at the beach is there is no place in mind, for any hazy thoughts. Just like the ships clearly visible on the horizon, each thought which appears in mind beach is clearly visible when I am at the beach. It has nothing to do with my effort. Because I never try to be mindful at the beach. So, it must be natural. It must be nature doing it. So, if you are finding difficult to start on mindfulness awareness, I suggest try the beach on your next vacation. Or this afternoon if you are close by. That concludes my 7 reasons why you should visit the beach. What are yours?

  • Dead fish on the beach - Lessons learned from covid

Poem on Covid Sun is resting, glistening in gold You take a moment to contemplate thoughts Wrath disappeared into the night sky Just like youth vanished without a goodbye In the final hours of just another day Final hour to a thousand who perished today I was walking on the beach just the other day, to notice there were dead fish along the shore. Nobody would care. Not even dogs, not even crows did want to eat the dead fish as may be because it wasn't fresh, maybe it was toxic. The fish did not have eyes, but only empty eye sockets, maybe they did die sometime back. No wonder, dogs did not want to eat. Some, reclaimed by the sea, and I could capture one. It started with fear and panic First time, I heard about covid. I did not fear, as it was from far away from China. Some Europe countries. We saw videos in You tube how people were just falling dead on roads in remote parts of China. And although they were too dramatic to believe true, we awaited our turn. And it took good nine months before it started to spread in the country. Again, it did not come to a door-to-door disaster until another few months. At last, it was our turn. It was a taboo, those days to be positive, as nobody wanted to get it. News was always about death counts. People were dying in and out of hospitals like dead fish. Maybe just like the sea, maybe nature did have enough of our stupidity. For a brief moment, people realized, the importance of life. Enemies stopped fighting as there was the bigger devil. We looked back at our textbooks to find out about the coronavirus, which we had long forgotten. Packed our fridges with frozen food. Greedily, more than the next-door Neighbour. At last, in a year and half, we were able to walk out in public free and start to hit the roads for work and vacation. Lessons learned from covid. What were the lessons learned from covid. We learned that it needs only a single virus to put humans into the history. Our dooms day might not come from the sky, but from a remote backyard, where a deadly virus hides. Luckily the death rate of covid was not very high. While globalization brought the virus, breaking all the barriers, Isolation did work. That kept the death counts on hold until the vaccinations arrived. So, maybe globalization is not without its own hazards. Remember the guy who went to live in the jungle before the covid? And he came back few months later to know the chaos which we were in. As he was not connected to the grid of information, he did not share the panic and problems we faced during that time. But I am sure he had own little problems, in his own little hut in the jungle. Proving that what matters is what you know. More importantly we learned about the zero of life. When the diseased flooded our healthcare system, we had to prioritize everything. Who needs it most? Our elders sacrificed their lives, saving ICU beds for their sons and daughters. Although our lives matter, they did matter not equally. For thousands it was their last days on earth. I used to see the covid death graphs, every day, mechanically without knowing each pixel represents thousands of people who are dead. Today there is no covid. I walk free on the beach without a mask. On the same beach where a dreadful tsunami occurred 20 years ago, killing so many people just lying dead like fish. And I looked at myself. I have aged 20 more. Years of youth are beneath me. I am reaching the zero of life day after day, just like an elderly gentleman who did not deserve an ICU bed during covid pandemic. Google tells me for 170463 people today would be their last day on earth. Although covid is not their people still die. But why nobody is panicked? Covid only killed 15000-20000 per day when it was at its peak. Covid did not affect me personally much. Except severe body aches I had nothing. Yet some of us had near death experiences or had to go through suffering of our loved ones. Even healthy ones who are far from zero. Hence, it is an opportunity to look back and ask why? I wish I could know the answers to why, looking at the dead fish, and the blue waves. Life is still a Mistry. Dead fish on the beach Did not know it was dead Washed ashore and ignored Neither the dog which walked by Nor the crows flew by Wanted to eat it Reclaimed by the sea

  • Growing in wisdom by Going with the flow - philosophy

Examples of going with the flow. In Football I was watching a video of best goals by great players of 21st century ( link ). The video showed each player's most Iconic goal followed by their own assessment and commentary on actually what happened. Something I noticed was that generally everyone said that there was nothing supernatural about what they did. They did not even recognize that the goal was supernatural at the time they played it. Only after watching the replay some of them realized the value of, it. Common to everyone was, actually nobody wanted to play a brilliant goal, they just went with the flow, "Adjusted themselves to what is happening". Just like the ball was meant to be hit that way. In a plastic bag, in wind. Have you seen the empty polythene bag which dances in the wind? It was like the plastic bag got a life by itself. Just a little wind which gave it a lift and it started to behave like a ghost. Like an invisible life controlling its movements. If you haven't seen the plastic bag, you may have seen a flag in the wind . Just like I observed some time ago. Maybe you have watched a leaf floating on the water and compared with the life. Why should we go with the flow? If we look carefully going with the flow is the really a form of going against the flow. When we look at life, we always think about it in the point of view of a free will . From the early life we were taught lessons of being successful, financially spiritually and even when it comes to mindfulness and meditation and charity. We degrade and suppress the opposite, poverty, cruelty chaos and greediness. Yet this duality was created by our own minds. So, trying to change things is the normal acceptable behavior, however going with the flow is opposite way to try to change things. How to go with the flow? - by example I can give you a useless list of ten things to follow to go with the flow. However, that would not be beneficial to you. That would be just a trick list to rank in google better. So, I will give you example of going with the flow, so you can understand. The main idea is, you can only go with the flow, when you have enough wisdom with mindfulness. Case of anger. Imagine you are angry, for some reason, with some thing or someone. We all have been there. Feeling the blood boiling inside with ears starting to get fire. What is our normal response. We know anger is bad, and we try to suppress it. We want to control our anger, and just to see it is getting bigger. Just like happiness disappear when we try to reach happiness, angry monster grows when we try to control it. When the anger disappears, you may start to worry, that you got angry. What is the alternative? To understand the alternative and understand the true nature of the go with the flow. We need to be aware and acknowledge the presence of anger. That is, it. You would start to see the Anger arises, due to circumstances. Just like all the other mental objects, anger is also a mental object. Hence when the circumstances disappear, the anger will disappear. So, you can just go with the flow. If you have gained wisdom from observing countless times, what happens in your mind, you would know, if anger arise you have nothing to do. It's just a harmless mental object. And you can even play with it. And it will be replaced by happiness. When it is gone, its gone. When it is there it is there. And that is true meaning of going with the flow - just notice your drifting through time. Oh, that is easy to say. But hard to do. But it is a better framework than trying to forcibly suppress anger, for that matter any emotion. Eventually we will learn that we are not masters of the mind, but just observers. Observers, who even have ability to observe the observer and observing. When you start to go with the flow, you will eventually find out, that is rather not an option, but it is what is happening. You will notice, watching you tube videos, minute after minute is not your doing, and not inherently less valuable than writing a blog post. That is what I understand by going with the flow. What does it mean for you?
