- Story of the boy who lost his Dog and Mathematics (pattern recognition)
Story of boy and dog There was a boy, who reared a dog. Imagine your favorite kind of dog. One day he lost the dog. The dog was the dearest to him, so he was very upset as any pet lover would be, and he cried and cried for days, searched everywhere, after school. Even put-up flyers in the town. Eventually after few weeks he gave up. https://unsplash.com/@castillcc Then out of nowhere a girl appeared in his doorstep with his dog. It was found injured by the road and was rescued by the girl. They got to know each other and became friendly. She was very attractive and kind that they fell in love. And he was happy. Years went by and the boy was selected to a university as he excellence in his studies. He had to leave his hometown, but the girl broke up with him, instead of following him into the future, she chose otherwise. The boy became depressed for some time. But he was determined that he would become the best student in his university and boy! he did become. https://unsplash.com/@napr0tiv Story of Mathematics and pattern recognition The story goes on, you can write the rest of your own, but let's deviate from our story into a math lesson I learnt from our grade Eight math teacher. We had a very good math teacher who once said "mathematics, is all about pattern recognition". I did not understand, I knew it was something important, as I believed him. But we were so, involved in solving the problems faster than others, it was a just an utter for most of us. But I believed him. Mathemetics is all about patterns, and now after years later, when I understand that is the most important lesson, he had taught me. It's not only mathematics, "life is all about patterns." https://unsplash.com/@i__prabir Pattern recognition Now it's time to go back to our story with the wisdom gained from my Late teacher (Sadly, he died in the school while at work of a heart Attack!) Is there a pattern to the story of the boy and dog? Let's analyze. First the boy was happy -> he had a dog. Then the boy was sad -> he lost the dog Next, he was happy -> he met a girl. After that he was sad -> he lost the girl Later he was happy again -> he became the best in the lot. https://unsplash.com/@savvas_kalimeris Now the question is he was immediately sad after he lost the dog, but it started a happy sad never-ending cycle for him. If taken in isolation, the event of losing the dog is a sad occurrence. But if looked at it with wisdom, from our mathematics teacher, we see the pattern of life, which is like a wave with peaks and troughs. It is inevitable, nobody would remain permanently at one end of it. After all it is futile to hang on to either end as we move forward, and that would be the best prediction of the future, its going to change . I will end the story there and invite you to recognize patterns next time in your life, in the nature and in abstract paintings, and even thoughts. Have you seen the waves crash on the beach? Have you seen sunflowers follow the sun rays? Have you seen weddings and funerals on the same street? Have you seen kingdoms rise and fall over decades? Isn't it inevitable there is a fall, after we rise so tall? https://unsplash.com/@pawel_czerwinski It makes me feel like a kid rocked on natures cradle. - Metamorphosis, is not what you think. Philosophy of embryology
Metamorphosis example Just the other day, I drew metamorphosis of a monarch butterfly. By definition it means dramatic transition of morphology of an animal more than twice during its life cycle. So, eggs becoming chicken is not, but a larve becoming a butterfly is metamorphosis. There are many examples for these kind of transitions in animal Kingdom. And the most common other example being tadpoles becoming frogs. We used to catch them in streams, and fields, tadpoles without legs were just like fish. But when they have developed legs they looked scary and disgusting. I would not dare touch them. So, what does really happen? How can we understand anything from this phenomenon? I am going to show why metamorphosis is not exactly what we think it is. We can start by looking at it in different angles. Monarch Caterpillar Story of the embryo. Maybe you have heard. Maybe you have not. In the begining of our lives in mothers woumb we all were embryos. Just like a microscopic tadpole, a sperm joined with an egg to form a single cell. Progrssively devided into forming a morulla and then an embryo. If you compared this small organism to ourselves now, I can say it is just metamorphosis. We were just like some larve when inside the mother. If you do not believe me, in the begining, we had tails, and had a circulating arch system like a fish. Everything was flat at the begining like a stingray and was like a pancake before it was rolled and fused in the midline, to form a continous tube from mouth to back passage! That there is our embryology lesson! In summary I can say we were all pancakes which developed into human form by progressively breaking down old systems with new ones by enzymes in a giant chemical reaction, which is called metamorphosis. We were caterpillars for nine months before being free butterflies. Cocoon But what is the philosophy in it? In summary a caterpillar did not become a butterfly overnight. It is easy to understand. If you were given photographs of caterpillars changing from a larve to a butterfly every minute it would be slow transition. Just like what is happening to a human embryo. Although there are distinct steps like a butterfly coming out of the cocoon. Yet this is a continous process. But humans are not capable of understanding continous change, as they doesn't make any sense, we make them discrete by saying a caterpillar became a butterfly overnight. Forgetting everything in between this slow transition process. This simple fact has profound implications in many observations in life. Examples of continous life. Consider getting old, we say Mr. M got old just by looking at two pictures of him forgetting the fact that it is slow transition from childhood to adulthood. Even changing occurred when he was sleeping. Consider falling of an apple. We call it fell from a tree forgetting all the seconds which it fell through the air. We can say you read the article forgetting everything happened in between start to the finish. Did you even know how you got a meaning out of syllables which individually do not even have a meaning? Is it a magic or what? Monarch Butterfly Mindfulness is looking at the process, of how we create abstractions on these continous ever changing function. For someone with a mathematical background I have created a formula collecting all the functions of the world. If you understand you would be amazed how so called things in our brains that we interact with are just like caterpillars and butterflies of the continous function of an animal, and neither do exist nor non existing either. And what is true for a butterfly seems true for ourselves as well. Which can be arrived by logic but applied only by mindful examination of self.
- Why I use a stagename?
Stagenames are not uncommon When you start to act, sometimes you will need a stagename. When you start to write I use a stagename. Most often this is because the stagename has something to offer. I heard that when asked why he used Eminem, he said, it is because he cannot use M&M the famous brand. And if you spell M&M it will just sound Eminem. Words do not mean anything: https://unsplash.com/@henniestander Often we are involved in these roles of fictional characters, when we create or act. And the roles these actors take doesn't always tally with their character. Sometimes it is exaggeration of reality. Sometimes it is not the person you really are. Maybe it is a vilian you are playing. Imagine Anton Chigurh from no country for old men. When Javiar Bardem, did play the role, he had to become the brutal fictional charactor that I would not even dare to perform at any point in my life. Not even for a film. I would not even write such a charactor in even a novel, if I wrote one one day. Totally totally off the population norms. So, it is Good that everyone knows Javiar Bardem that he is not a villian when he is walking alone in the Red carpet. I am sure he would like to keep the Anton Chigurh out of his normal live at any cost, and that is the role of a stage name. Seekers of truth But Still there is a reason I use a stage name. And that is because I talk about truth. Truth is ugly and sometimes even offensive. This is why most of the time we avoid truth and chose to live in a dream. We chose to live in a dream about future and we used to dream about past. We even chose to dream about a dream about present. We like to see a beautiful flower or a serine sunset , and appriciate all the good things about it. We share more if we write about how to achieve happiness in one two or seven steps. Or if I told you how mindfulness makes you wiser and prospect in our job, I could sell more copies of my book. Nobody would even touch that download button if I start speaking the truth. If I say reality is just a dream, nobody would dare to read beyond. And Only few brave seekers of the truth will dare to test deep waters, even if they risk getting drowned and dead. The question is are you that seeker? If you are this blog is all about you. I do not mind writing things for one person in a billion population. One like mind is enough, one heart battered by all the knots of life is enough. If I can talk about truth disguised in my stage name, One listener is good enough for Magical Mindful Living to keep pushing. As I know I am as selfish as any other being on the planet, which is another ugly truth. What lies beneath? : https://unsplash.com/@tdederichs Why I use a stagename? Behind my stagename, I do not have to hide my selfishness. I can take a risk of offending you, the reader, to seek the truth. I can push mine and your imagination so we, can discuss things like jelousy anger and demons in our thoughts, who had been haunting me, like any other. We can empathise about a man who was forgotten by the society and hung himself twenty years ago. So, Like Eminum did sing about one shot and one opportunity, I risk everything behind the stagename so I could change the course of some atoms in this floating universe, as in a millania, there would be plenty of souls saved by those ripples I create today like a butterfly creates a hurricanes a dacade later, by flapping its wings. I am doing it while appearing a normal, middle class, working being. It is not a big risk like a surgeon would take while cutting onto tissues of an unconsciouss man. It is not a big risk like Captain Sull y took when he landed his plane in Hudson river. Nonetheless it is a risk. It is a risk than all the years of silence in my past. I just obeserved life until I understood enough, until I am sure of what I am talking about, until I am wise enough to talk without being offended too much from the currupted illusive society. And for seekers of truth like Jordan Peterson, it is a risk. Talking truth is a necessary risk. So, I do not mind you chosing the same. I do not mind you reading this article and carry its message in silence and work as normal human being from tomorrow. I do not mind you sending annonymous message offending me. As my stagename "Magical Mindful Living" is the firewall for my operating system.
- Informal definition for death and mindfulness.
This article discuss philosophy of death, from a point of view of mindfulness. I was at a funeral. While formal grieving process was going on, with adults, kids were at play. I could not help notice of them, running around in joy. I am sure while the older kids, were aware of the grieving process of death, younger ones and toddlers, did not know that at all. Death is not a concept on their minds. And I am sure if you keep a todder under his mothers dead body, would still smile and play, but a teenager who has lost their mother would be devastated. And it made me wondering what death really is? Previously I have written about death, in philosophical point of view and a poetic manner . However here I would take a mindful apporach, for that matter to give you a new perspective to look at death like a kid! Funeral: https://unsplash.com/@m4yron Formal Definition of death. "a permanent cessation of all vital functions : the end of life" "the action or fact of dying or being killed; the end of the life of a person or organism" Above are the two formal definitions of death given in Merrium Webster and Oxford dictionaries respectively. And it made me think, death is not only affecting us, humans. But all the living organisms, for microbes trees animals viruses etc. Even a cell without any sign of a consciousness would live and die in a petri dish. Hence "Death" goes beyond just funerals. We know this, yet do we even think about it while at a funeral? Or we just cry? But the purpose of this article is to look at death from mindfulness eye. And get that wisdom into our practice so we can be better at understanding nature. Well, that is good enough a purpose. And for the first time I feel like I am going to talk about something to improve value rarther than reducing it. Practical on death. Let's do a practical example. Imagine someone who knows and is dead. I am sure this person, when was living, you would go and meet them even daily, if they were dearest to you. And you are afraid to meet them today, as this just means that they are a ghost, not the person you did know. However, fundamentally what has changed, is that the collection of atoms, and the "Soul" is no longer there in the human form that you knew. As it has changed markedly, and returned to the nature, nolonger your eyes can make pictures of the same person. No longer your ears can identify their voice, from thousands of sounds in the nature. And you loved this picture, and the sound. Yet you cannot recreate it now. And that is one of the mindfulness ways of looking at death. "Death is a change, which makes the pictures of someone, and the voice of someone nolonger appears "live" in our minds. Now, this is a simple fact. It is not a new wisdom. We kind of already know this. Yet, this fact hides some truths about death. Now, imagine someone who is not here with you. I am sure you are reading this in a corner in your room. In a train, or in a bus. Or in your office, and very rarely even when you are in a boat. Imagine someone you know, and no longer there and is assumed still living. And put your newly formed wisdom on death to this scenario. Are they dead? I am sure you will blame me at this point. And might even call me stupid. If 100 started reading this post, I am sure 90% of the audiance is lost at this time, as we are moving into some bizzare phenomena happening in our minds. And it is not occationally. It happens daily and it happens now. So if you are in that 10% who is not afraid you can read next para. What is living? : https://unsplash.com/@rivercat Its just physics. The person who are not with you, or not in front of your consciousness is living and non living. It is not me who is saying this. It is quantum physics, applied with mindfulness. They are living because you do not know they are dead. Life is so fragile that nobody can predict when it happens as there are so many dumb ways to die . They are not living as you do not know they are living, unless they are in front of you. We have no way of proving that anyone is living unless they are infront of us. For that matter, anything. What exist in your relative world in this moment is what is there in your consciousness. It is just this scentence in this article not the previous one you've just read. Not even your feet! exist until I mention it. Not even your cloths exist Until I talk about it. Similarly Death exists only for the living consciousness. So, mindfulness is so simple. You just watch what comes to your turing machine which is called consciousness and more importantly understand what is not there as well, and know that simple fact. So, you may ask, what is the ultimate trick for this kind of practice. What is the gain? And I can say we are not aiming for anything. It is just a investigation of self. To understand a continous process called life. And identify the key, actor which is called self. To identify its building blocks. To improve the wisdom, until it identify itself. Surely it doesn't end up in a heap of dollars for that matter. It is just to identify how A dollar would create happiness in the self, in the first place. Don't you want to know that? Don't you want to know who you are ? Isn't it worth more than a heated compacted glistening carbon atoms mined from the core of the earth? And I think it should be the aim of all the 8 billion intelligent consciousness, not only creating new gadgets or neuclear wepons to expand imaginary boundries. What do you think?
- Puss in boots wisdom - story of success
Who bakes a best cake? Story of success Reality shows took us in a storm. It started a couple of decades ago, one after the other, and even cooking became a reality show. There was no suprise in that as most of our lives are spend on thinking about food and sex, which is the fundemental genious trap of the mother nature to capture our consciousness in making what she wants. Only some philosophers like you and me wants to challenge this and ask what is the meaning of life? Again and again. Hence I have been writing a lot about nothingness and valuelessness of the nature. And somebody might even think I am against success and growth. If you have doubts, ask yourself, if magical mindful living is against growth why we have built a blog with 300 pages and it keeps growing? Baking a cake: https://unsplash.com/@cottercrunch On cooking contests Let's get back to the question. Imagine a cooking show. Where the contestants are given chance to chose their own ingredients, and utensils. Asked to bake a cake. Whom do you think will cook the best cake? It depends right? But what I can say is it is not always the one with best ingredients. It's not the one with too much sugar. Not the one with too much salt either. It is the one with the best balance and best talent even in making the proper fire matters. Hence there is a saying which goes "It is not the one with best ingredients bakes the best cake" and that is true. So in the story of success the ingredients matters less, what matters most is the effort. And this is the puss in boots wisdom. Puss in boots in a fancy dress Remember Puss in Boots? Remember the famous children story we learnt when we were kids. The youngest child only inherited a cat, while elders had a barn a field and a house. A cat worths nothing, you cannot milk a cat, you cannot plough a field. Proud little animal. But what mattered at the end was not where the cat started but creating opportunities. The cat created opportunities along the way. It was even intelligent to use the transformative power of the giant for its advantage. Ended up owning a palace and even more successful than his siblings. Similarly, when we look at our opportunities we often see they are limited. Yet what is limited is our vision about life. Life is a potential. There are no limits to life. Whatever boundaries were created by ourselves, or our ancestors, only exist in our minds. And moment you understand this you are free to investigate the life the way you prefer. And it doesn't matter what is the method you use. It can be through music, mathematics or philosophy. It can be boolean, imaginary or nihilistic. As fundamentals of everything is nothingness , nothing will be lost, and nothing will be free. The mind which crave music will still be free as the same mind which craves silence. As both of them harbour peace at its core. Mangroves with flowers Mangrove with flowers As an example, look at that mangrove covered in flowers. Did you see how beautiful it is? Or did you only see the plastic bags scattered around it. If you see only the plastic bags, and gave it a negative value. You will end up in sadness. If you see flowers and the plant instead you can be happy. And if you see nothingness in both, I can assure you you will get wiser and you will keep your mouth shut when an environmentalist start shouting at a capitalist. Neither you will live in a illusionary dream of flowers like a Naturalist. More importantly you would see what is happening in everyone's mind. And opportunity will be there, for you to gain. Just like me who wrote a paragraph on an insignificant mangrove and half a dozen of plastic bags! It is the same stupid game that we played when we were kids, same imaginary rules . So once you know its imaginary opportunity is everywhere as humans posess the power of creation . Just like me Just like everyone. What do you waiting for?
- Rearing squirrels and The call of the wild
Why rearing squirrels? I am not a fan of rearing animals. But I have to write about squirrels. Why? Because when I closed my eyes just a minute ago, for a rest I heard a squirrel crying non stop. Maybe it is calling its partner, maybe it is warning others about a cat or a snake. But it reminded me about squirrels in my childhood. Squirrel: https://unsplash.com/@pearseoh There were plenty of them. As our house was isolated from rest plenty of trees and plenty of squirrels were there. I can remember being a small kid I loved watching them, playing and eating. I am sure I have outlived them. Maybe I am talking about twenty generations of squirrels in the past. Yet I hear the same pitch. It seems the sounds of squirrels did not evolute for few decades, and nature had preserved it. Not letting it extinct yet. Occasionally mama squirrels nested in our house. Corners of the roof were a safe place for them to live. Surely we kept snakes and cats away from the nest. But rarely she did not survive. Over the years several times, mama squirrels did not return to her home. And we saw evidence of a pieces of tail, left after a struggle with a cat. And hungry little squirrels started to cry. And we knew we have to take care of them. Sometimes small as my little finger. Still eyes not open, and without any fur, they looked ugly pink. And they could not drink, and we fed milk with a little cloth so they can suck on this. It worked everytime like magic, and squirrels cubs grew day by day, all the milestones checked. Happy healthy and fat. For us kids these were happy times, as young squirrels fed by us were real pets. They were obviously very fond of us and loved to be cuddled. They would run all over our bodies. Their tiny feet has nails and as they grew up they started even to hurt when they grab our skin. Their teeth have a sharp bite and I would not dare let them bite. Call of the wild Call of the Wild: https://unsplash.com/@buchstabenhausen As they grew up they started going out. First with our supervision. They would climb a tree and come back when we call. Still we fed them. With everything we have. Still they lived with us. And they would wait eagerly for our return home if we go somewhere for a few hours. Still they loved cuddles. But within few weeks things change. They would spend more time on trees, like they have found out this new adventurous world. I would not blame them as I know a view from a tree is far better than view from ground. Like Buck, in call of the wild by Jack London. They would slowly change their character. They would be called by the nature more often. The temporary relationship as humans pet would slowly dissolve. And one night they would not return home. We could not ask where were they. Surely they would not tell, and they could not. It maybe in a nearby tree with a friend squirrel. Or it may be far away hunting insects. But still they would eat. And these adventurous nights become the norm after a while and there comes a time we would not see them for few days in a row. And when this happen, we know squirrels no longer need us. They might eat from us. And they might sleep in their nest. But once we know they do not like to be in the nest we take it down. And squirrels stop being our squirrels and become "wild" squirrels again. And when we look at trees a bunch of squirrels playing, we call at them but one comes. What do we expect, it is sad and happy at the same time. Sad that we are nolonger able to cuddle them, take care of them. Happy that like a squirrel mother we have made them independent. And sometimes out of nowhere a squirrel comes and jump on us! And it feels like time of thanksgiving! Sometimes they come back if they wish to make a nest! I do not have squirrels now. But I know what to expect in the future as there are two little Bambinis still at home. Have you ever reared squirrels? How many? Do they still return home?
- Mindfulness and religion,What is the difference?
What is mindfulness and What is religion? Mindfulness has its origin in Eastern philosophy. Someone might say it is in the core of the Buddhist practice. However it is different from a religion. And here in this article we discuss the fundamental difference. To understand this we need to look around first and then into ourselves. A religion is based on a belief. If we look at any religion in the world there is a component which goes beyond the human capabilities. I would say at the core of any religion there is a fundamental belief that there is some liberation. But this part Is very difficult to prove or disprove. Even if its written in books, even if we feel it like true how can we be sure about thigs we cannot see hear or feel? Atheism on the other hand does not believe in such unseen things . But is it not the opposite end of the same stick? Instead of believing in things, they believe in things which doesn't exist. Instead of believing in God, they believe in no God. Instead of believing in sins, they do believe in no sins. Although atheist tries to separate themselves from in believing things we can see, at the core of their argument, they themselves create mental imagery of the same things, and then "believe" they are not there. Something cannot be there unless that was there? And I would say this atheism is different from nothingness , as there is something in atheism. In fact atheism also a kind of religion. As it is also believing in things. Lagoon: https://unsplash.com/@titouanc Now let's look around. What do you see? I see the lagoon, the sky, the trees and people walking by. I hear the sounds of birds and crows. Now here is the thing. If believing is a religion, I would say I have a religion. Because I believe all these things happen around me. Ever since my parents taught me, that black noisy birds which makes untidy nests are crows. I believe in them. I believe they exist! Ever since from the seventh grade I learned about lagoons in geography, thanks to my teachers I believe in them, I believe lagoons do exist. Ever since I learned about sky and trees I believe in them. I believe they have roots deep in the ground, although I do not see them I believe. Can you see the similarity of our world to a religion? Infact everything I see, hear or smell, comes under this belief system. If I do not believe in the ground is hard, I might even fear to take a step thinking I might sink deep down to earth. Can you see the problem. In fact it is not far different from blind faith in God. I have written so much details about lies in different believes of ourselves. In clouds , in mirage , in glass of water and in pens even in money . It is only when we see this in mindfulness we can see everything is a blind faith. Even mathematics and science. Greatest human creations. If I tell you this jumble of believes extend beyond our imagination I would not be lying. Even happiness, even sadness is like a chimera of a fairy tale. And seeking comfort in these belief system is like trying to build a house using thin paper. It's fragile and helpless. But what is the alternative? Chimeric: https://unsplash.com/@clevelandart Difference between mindfulness and religion The alternative is the mindfulness. As you can see mindfulness is not just being aware of a tree in front of you. It is the mental examination of identifying the truth about the tree which is the difference between mindfulness and religion, In mindfulness we keep our believes temporerily at halt. If you have some intution on what I am talking tight now you would understand, there would be truth in a tree as long as we believe. If we are mindful we will see the tree is just a relative truth. Now here is some interesting fact. If you have understood anything after reading this article, I can 100% guarantee that is not the truth either. Its just another lie. Can we go anywhere with this? Infact, this is the true meaning of being aware. Let it be. No matter how much our teachers of mindfulness ask us to be aware and let it go, we cannot. How can we let go? We believe in everything. When we believe, there is no letting go. We are just grabbing, and this happens so fast that even we cry when things seems to do fall apart. But if we are mindful we just might see that things that we thought are there are just things we created in the first place. That is mindfulness. Now you can turn into yourself and ask yourself the question. "How am I created in the first place?" Is it not the same way my mind created a tree? Do I exist? Or what? Let's be mindful today to understand. Please leave a comment if this crap doesn't make sense at all, or difficult to understand.
- Philosophy in court, Hidden agendas and Hearsay, Johnny Depp
Philosophy in Court. I'm a big fan of Johnny Depp movies. Obviously "The Pirates of the carribian" are the favourites. And Captain Jack sparrow has a noble conduct than anyone else I believe due to the fact that he did not want to hide that he is mischievious as well as canny. Maybe he is a robber who didn't want to lie . So, I followed Johnny Depp devorce case. Mainly because youtube suggested me everytime I opened the app, and secondly it was genuinely interesting. I will point out three interesting facts about the Johnny Depp case. Johnny Depp Fact One: Who is the lier? First, just only few minutes into the trail I was thinking what is even there to trail? I could even tell who is acting and who is not, just by looking at faces! I am sure I am not the only one who felt this. That is a whole lot prejudice to judge a book by the cover, that is not how courts handle the matters. The facts should be proven beyond doubt. Hence we had a chance to witness a great film of Johnny second only to Pirates of the carribien In material for a laugh! Fact Two: Who has a hidden Agenda? Secondly there were great examples of hidden agendas. Sometimes we appear we are there for nothing. But if you are somewhere just in this second, that is because you expect something in return, unless you are a seeker of nothing . I am sure only handful of them are there for each continent. Otherwise we are pretty normal human beings. When the former TMZ member on the witness stand, defence lawyer questioned him asking "Are you here for your fifteen minutes of fame?". He thought about this for a moment and at the end he said, "Well, if that is the case I can say the same about you, by taking the case, you were searching for the same fame". And that was true! Everybody laughed and admired his sharp wisdom. And I see that statement can even be generalised. We can say everyone in that courtroom that day was for some gain. For cameramen it was a great coverage of their lifetime. For everyone seated they appeared in television or media. Unless someone was there without a conscious awareness of their presense (pretty much meaning either dementic or in a coma), everyone was gaining something, financial or mental in nature. So, it was a strong statement. For that matter if someone says they are there for nothing I would say, just know that they are liers. Teachers teach, lawyers appear in court, Judges become Judges, and social workers become social workers because they have some gain. You go to cinema to entertain, you go to supermarket because you have a need to buy, and you scratch your back to relive an itch! Sometimes some even do not know there are hidden agendas. Lovers love and preachers preach politicians rule beacuse of the gains. Its very very very rare to find no gain moments in our lives. So, knowing this fact will help yourself atleast to be true to yourself. And as for proper conduct we might have to appear saints sometimes. Hearsay: https://unsplash.com/@birminghammuseumstrust Fact three: Understanding Hearsay Thirdly hearsay. Lets assume Sally in the witness stand say "Robert said to me he saw Maggie got in a taxi with Tom". In this case scenario unless Robert is in the court the statement cannot be taken as evidence. It is something the witness did not witness directly. So it is a "hearsay". In the Jonney Depp trail I saw whenever there was a statement by a witness often this would be objected by the opposition lawyer and most common reason being it is a hearsay. As a philosopher I can enumerate the logic behind this. If we assume witness is saying true in the first place, why would he or she lie about what they hear and not what they see? Meaning, someone can equally lie about what they hear and what they see. No matter what, subjectivity of the witnessess statement cannot be eliminated. If we assume the witness is saying true when they say something they saw, we cannot assume they say something false when they say hearsay. Maybe it is the fact that court only can allow one persons subjective error not two in a row. (If you look at a circuit, resistance will be added if two resistors in series, but in parallal, it will reduce the overall resistance of the system -> little bit of electronics :) So that subjective errors would be multiplied if it happens. To understand this subjective error, I have written a previous article. Again this is coming from a Judge and it goes, " people generally see what they looking for and hear what they listen for ". Which basically means two persons observing same incident see two things not one, and both of them are equally true. Does this prove as a fact that courts can never find the truth? Only philosophers can? Or everything they prove in courts is with false witnesses of relative truths? I am sure about one thing, I will never want to be in a court, which tries to prove a truth which is not there objectively!
- Understanding Technical Drawings in wedding photography and mindfulness
What is technical Drawing? If you are not an architect/ Engineer or recently built a house it is unlikely you have come across the above term. Even it is not a familier word among many artists. But once you have read this article you may understand not only the meaning of it, but also the connection with subjectivity and mindfulness. We used to draw images of simple objects. It is a method of representation of a 3d object in a 2d paper. For that matter in a computer even. A cylinder can be drawn as a two equal rectangles, and a circle as seen from above. And architects know these are the most common drawings we use. However if the complexity of the object is more we might need more drawings like both side views back view etc. Compared to the perspective drawing where we try to draw a 3d object combining all 3 shapes of views in a 2d plane. In elevation drawing, only the tops and bottom views ommited. Rear view Of a Whale Technical drawing of a bride or wedding photography This is not rocket science. Infact if you have phone with a camera we do this all the time. Imagine a wedding photo shoot session. Front on view of the bride on a single photo would not at all tell the story. So the photographer takes multiple views from different angles. From behind, from the sides, even from above and even from below. And this gives more details and more complete picture of what the bride looked like on that day. No wonder these photo shoots are so f----g expensive. It's just an technical drawing of a bride! I can go on talking about technical drawings more and more. I can fill up an entire screen with 5000 words about these drawings. But I won't do that. As I am exhausted as you are solving knots in life . I am just an ordinary guy who is prone to sickness and tiredness and value conciousness just like you. So your seconds matters just like I value mine. I have only 1000 words to give you a lifetime of wisdom. Another side angle view of your life to try to complete the picture of yourself. I can say its a birds eye view, or a view from top of a tree . But here is the real question. Think about the following. Top view of a whale Understanding technical drawings. Imagine you were given a technical drawings of a house. And asked which one is correct? Think about this for a moment. Obvious answer is non of them were correct. But let's go a little bit deeper into this before we come to conclusions and truly understand technical drawings. If non of them were correct how come we can built a perfect replica of the house using the same plan? It seem non of them were correct is not a good answer. You can say, what is real is the true house. What is built is the real deal right? But I would say wrong again! The house that you see is just your own perspective of the house. It is just one technical drawing. Infact which iteration of time this drawing of your house upgrades and updates. And if there are 1000 people they have 1000 different technical drawings of the same house. Non of them are correct because its not true thing, non of them are wrong either because It's just relative. And this is not new wisdom. It's the subjectivity of the nature, which have been discussed by generations of philosophers over many years. However, I would say that is a serious fact for mindfulness. Sideview of the whale Walking mindfully among blind For many years, you must have been looking for the real deal of life. The perfect job. Perfect peace and calmness. The perfect happiness. Until you meet mindfulness and the wisdom it provides. It's just relative. No matter how much effort you put into it, you would never see the real deal. The instruments we posess which we call our mind and body are not capable of going beyond the prison of its own. And it just creates magical world which is true and false at the same time. Just like true and false drawings in our argument. And knowing this fact and application of it is, "true" mindfulness. Of course we have to say true at some point as the mind has to cling onto something to exist. But that there is the only way to say an unsayable truth. I can only hope you would see the "house" not the elevations created by your own mind. Let's walk mindfully among blind.
- Maximus the Gladiator philosophy
When in the movie The Gladiator, when the dying king asked the commander of his army, Maximus, offering the throne, instead of Commodious, following dialogue unravels. And this hides some fundamentals of philosophy. Markus Aurelius: There is one more duty that I ask of you before you go home. I want you to become the protector of Rome after I die. I will empower you to one end alone, to give power back to the people of Rome and end the corruption that has crippled it. Will you accept this great honor that I have offered you? Maximus: With all my heart, no. Markus Aurelius: Maximus, that is why it must be you. https://unsplash.com/@cotk_photo Philosophy of choosing a leader. We can deduct rules for choosing a leader for ourselves. Nowadays, there are no kings, hence, it is not the king's responsibility to choose a ruler. Good or bad, we all have the power to choose our ruler as a collective decision. Imagine two men run for presidency. Only thing we know is the image given by the media, about their intentions. Although it is wise to choose the one, who is less greedy about becoming the president, this also can be manipulated by the media. Hardly anyone wants to give up the power once they have it, because of the privileges comes with it. It may not be material, or luxury like older days, but it may come as recognition, respect, etc. Hence it is common; in developing countries, rulers are still behaving like kings, although they are chosen by general public. And it is a vicious cycle for the poor people in these countries, as they always have to choose less corrupt politician, as good ones, never come for running presidency. Just like Maximus in this case. This leads to the question, why people do not want to become kings. What do these good men see it as a burden. Good leaders, see it a burden to become a ruler, why? They do not see the power; they are not greedy about the luxury or the recognition. They see the leadership as a responsibility. They know that if they become the president, they have the responsibility to build the nation ( universal kings ). They know that is not an easy task, when everyone tries to meet their selfish ends. It is really difficult. They know people are going to die because of decisions they make about the country's economy. They know, people are going to suffer, if they fail. They know they have to put criminals in the jail. And they know they have to establish, ethical killing of animals to increase the nutrition of the children of the country. Imagine you are pure at heart. Would you rather be a King/ a leader or just let some other human being to do that. That is why it is unlikely someone with such pure intentions would lead a country. It is uncommon. And it is uncommon even in the case of modern democracy. https://unsplash.com/@calvinhanson The take home messages from Maximus, the gladiator Philosophy. Following is a few. When choosing a leader, Choose the one who is willing to do no unethical things, to come to the power. It is better to make a system, so that such people can come to power. As Adam Smith once pointed out , this is responsibility of wealthy, emperors to distribute their wealth to such people, not only their corrupt children. Who will continue to do good to the society, and humankind. When choosing happiness, Similarly, just like when choosing a leader, we should be looking at good intentions than able to rule well, we can choose kindness, peace and contentment over happiness. Then the happiness will invariably follow in life. Let's choose Peace , over happiness, as nature always will choose happiness for you if you do this.
- Last day on earth.
Warning: This article discusses philosophy of death personal point of view. Read at your own risk. Apocalyptic Last day on earth. It is not uncommon for us to see the last day on earth in a movie. If we did a google search, from Matrix to how it ends 2021, there is a long list of apocalyptic movies. I was surprised just looking at the list. There are hundreds of them. From gigantic tsunamis, frozen planets, heat waves, alien attacks, even deadly viruses. So, the fact is we are aware of the doom's day. It is dramatic if we all perished in a one day or within few days like in a movie. I am sure this fear is the reason why we seek the shelter of other planets. Are they just created by the sci-fi films, or the threats are just real? And should we not investigate where the fear comes from instead of running for shelter? Should we not investigate who is dying in the first place? Apocalypse: https://unsplash.com/@aleexcif Let's get you afraid Although the apocalyptic ending to my life is unlikely, I have noticed there are so many dumb ways to die, until the "natural" ends meet. On the other hand, I have argued that a plastic bottle, and pollution is also a natural thing. So, someone can still argue even getting an accident is also natural. Thinking about these philosophical thoughts in the corner of the coffeehouse, I swallow my own sandwich. Do you even know how many even die chocking on their food? In united states alone 5554 dies approx., per year, and 1 in 2500 lifetime risk. The same food that I swallow day after day to keep my body living, is the same shit potentially chock me, or give me diabetes and cancer. I am sure I will be scared of Bullseye in the movie Daredevil is my enemy. I would be scared of peanuts and paper clips, not because of anaphylaxis but because he (Bullseye) knows how to use both to make a perfect shot on my throat cutting off my valuable oxygen. Now I have established certain amount of fear in your mind. I can start scamming your consciousness. Did you see what fear does to us? When fear sets in, we go on running looking for answers like bunch of rats. When the fear sets in, we follow any PEEP piper who blows a nice tune. And they are everywhere! And it is this fear which will make you read the rest of the article looking for answers for these newly created problems in your life. So you do not agree? Do not believe me? I will show you why? Fear : https://unsplash.com/@franku84 How did it all begin? What were you doing before you started to read this? Reading newspaper? Having lunch or dinner? Mindless scrolling? It could be anything. Maybe you were taking a shower or s---tting. The fact is it doesn't matter. What matters is what were you thinking about? What were you thinking about? Today? Tomorrow? Office? Money? Garden? I don't know it. But I know death was the last thing you were thinking about. Its reading this article which made you think in line of where I drive. It is the mentioning in this article which made you think you should do something today to prepare for the doom's day. And without investigating where it came from, you were looking for answers. In fact, every question that we face are coming from information that we assume to be true. We can talk about apocalyptic ending to our lives only in the position, and when we agree we are "living". Mindfulness: https://unsplash.com/@mariodobelmann Philosophy of self and mindfulness solution. Who is living? Who is behind those eyes and ears. Isn't this person is built from the same information, which created the information sphere? The other side of the same coin? I know how much confused you are right now. These words might not create the same meaning in your mind. Infact that there is the heart of the problem. It is subjective . Let's get back to the problem. Simply the truth (relative) Is last day on earth does not exist. This illusion of the last day on earth was just created in our mind by the language, information, by the mind itself. First the mind creates the scenario "The last day on earth" and then it "fears" its own creation. And the same mind goes on listening to every sermon, looking to escape from the same mental objects it creates. I call this mind madness. And mindfulness is just looking at this crazy occurrence happening day after day, moment after moment. And it is a timeless process.
- Fire Benders and anger management, Monte Cristo wisdom
Following article discuss, philosophical fictional and mindfulness approach in anger management. However, this does not provide professional opinion on controlling anger, only personal perspective. Destructive power of anger and fire Benders and Diablo response. Anger has destructive fire. So, this is often compared to a fire. Infact this is not a bad comparison at all, just like a fire, anger when it is present, makes the blood boil inside its own bucket, and faces go red, while ears start to burn hair like the rapidly spreading Palisade fire. Even firefighters would not be able to contain such a fire, without the help of nature. And this can be expected from every anger that we have. And trying to control anger is like learning to bend fire. We can appreciate how much similarity this does have with fire benders in popular movies. If you have watched Suicide Squad 2016, Diablo is a character who has special power of making a fire. Yet he lacks the needed power to control his own anger. So, according to the plot, once when he was in rage with his wife, he burned everything down killing his beloved. And only when the anger is subsided, he comes to consciousness and decide never to use the fire again. Similarly, when anger is there, we almost always lose our general calmness, and things often can go out of hand. And it is uncommon for us to realize later that we have created more harm with anger than the initial cause of this. Anger is like fire : https://unsplash.com/@tobbes_rd Road Rage and mindfulness Today while I was driving, the car behind me honked several times and all of a sudden, the driver was shouting to me, for driving slowly and blocking the road. Suddenly out of nowhere I saw anger creeped in, apparently to be blamed for no reason! I maybe driving slowly, but there was some traffic, and there was no way anyone else could drive faster. I could feel my blood boiling and ears turning red. If this guy came to a fight I would have fight till death in rage. I know it is bad. I know it is stupid to be angry. Then with all the wisdom I have gained through writing this blog kicked in. And I observed my anger like it is just another mental object . I did not claim it to be mine. Within seconds it was gone, and I was being rational again. I even did not think about the guy 100 meters beyond the incident, it disappeared that fast without any trace. And that was an achievement, as I have seen people keep carrying road rage, longer than that, even miles and bring it home. It became funny when after few miles, when I stopped for gas, the same guy was filling his car just Infront of me. I got down, just to show him that I was aware, and didn't even speak a word, didn't even look at him. I am sure, his mind was racing to start an ugly word exchange. I just smiled with the cashier and kept my calmness throughout. That was easy anyway as My angry hormones were all gone and I am an introvert anyway. I think it gave him an opportunity to react and control his anger as well. Have you ever been in a road rage? rage : https://unsplash.com/@abhi05 The count of Monte Cristo. I was a big fan of the novel. Although I cannot remember exact details, I used to read how Monte Cristo was plotted against by his enemies into prison. And he came back strong, as a wealthy Count, with years of suffering behind his back, now as a real gentleman. And he kept his anger hidden inside him, to conduct like a true nobleman, without making any suspicion in his enemy's mind. And took the chance of revenge when they were doomed by their own greed lured by him. I am sure not only me, but everyone also who read the novel and appreciated they might have done the same. They themselves becomes the count and be the judge of the enemies. And this is the third way to use anger. But can we say this is eviler than the first one? Three ways of anger management and pros and cons of each So far, we discussed three methods to respond anger. One is diablo way - Or to burn everything down by letting it lose then and there. Second is Monte Cristo way - Or to keep it hidden, control our conduct and strike back hard at everyone responsible when it is possible without any self-harm. Third is mindfulness way - To identify and acknowledge anger is another mental object and, it too will pass. Like all other mental objects, it only prevails as long as you are feeding with firewood, of some similar thoughts. I would not say it is easy to be angry. Often it is the opposite. It is hard to be angry and destroy everything, it takes time effort and cost a lot, physically and mentally. The easiest and the most effective method is the third. Which is acknowledging and letting it go. No need to suppress but being aware is enough. If we are aware when it is small, there is no chance for it to grow into a massive destructive fire. Countess : https://unsplash.com/@clevelandart What about Monte Cristo? That is real difficult question to answer and its philosophical. But, as I have discussed earlier, in the article Cockroach ethics , I would say it is still not necessary to crush cockroaches. Not because it is a sin and we will be dragged to the hell, there is no evidence so far for that. But because it is unnecessary. As longer we hold onto fire, no matter how small it is, it is going to burn ourselves down, either tissues or souls. Hence, let the mindfulness rain on anger when it is there. Hopefully it will benefit in the long run.
