- Will anyone survive a world without happiness? (definition)
I was falling asleep on a chair the other day when I had thoughts like these. Happiness, hmm... It seems like something which a mind creates, To survive harsh reality from life. So, there is some hope, We wouldn't collapse from exhaustion. A mechanism of survival To spend a century forgetting hardships A great invention of nature to trick me to forget life as it is. Happiness... A virus Guard from my mind. Another program to counteract, Sadness.. anyone survive in a world without happiness? It is a good question to ask. Once we understand a world without happiness, we would be able to identify where this genius invention of nature comes from. Hence, we are closer to understand and define it. What if there is only sadness? It is true that we all seek happiness since we were born. Let it be satisfaction we get from quench our thirst, crave of taste. Happiness also comes from some deep desires for praise and praiseworthiness. But what will happen if there is no happiness in the world? Can you imagine such a world? It is obvious in such a world you would be labelled as depressed. As definition of depression itself includes lack of feeling happy. If it is no happiness, we would even give up on eating. Who knows we will all be malnourish and be wiped out of the surface of earth in no time. Imagine we all are infected with a covid virus which destroy dopamine system in our brain. It would kill faster than any other illness which weakens our immunity, as it will knock down our main driver for our work. That there is our definition for happiness. Happiness is the driving force of our survival. It is the source of our virus guard for inevitable doom otherwise. What produces happiness? It is clear that from above that happiness is created by our own mind. It is really unclear whether it is an entity by its own. As when you remove happiness what is left is sadness and depression. Not everyone would like to see happiness be defined as above. As knowledge of it itself may reduce chances of being happy. However good news is these programs are already coded in our brain so we could not re-program them. You would still feel happiness. Even reading this article, if you looked at it deep down creates a sense of accomplishment, which generate some of it. But you would never do the mistake of looking for it where it cannot be found when your wisdom is grown enough. Imagine a child in an African country. It seems they suffer a lot when we see it from here from our affluence point of view. However, if you would really live with them for a day, maybe they do create happiness on their own, in their relative world. They may be feeling happy when they get a piece of bread or a bottle of dirty water from a deep earth hole. Just enough happiness to sustain the life. - Where do our values come from? - mental representation.
This article is a follow up to the Objects of mind mental representation, where I have discussed some of the characteristics of mental objects. Here I will try to understand how our values are generated. Following is a poem about our values. Happiness Quantifiers - from the book what is time. We are in the land of Quantifiers they shouted, We measure our distances, we measure our weights, We measure our time, and we measure our speeds, We measure our heat, and we measure our energies. And when we get together, we talk about our measurements. We talk about the speeds of our cars. We chat about the calories we consume. We argue about the wages we are paid. We fight about the boundaries and land. We laugh about pink and white dresses. And we teach our children to measure on their own. That's all what we do. If you have followed the thought process of mental objects, previously I have discussed everything which comes to our consciousness is represented by our mind by mental objects. Same physical object is represented by different mental imaginary by different people in deferent ways. More importantly our values are attached to the mental objects. You would say, no, our values are in the physical object itself. Let's understand this. Example Imagine you are trying to sell your car. You are the first owner of the car. You try to sell it for good money; however, nobody wants to buy it. After few months of trying, you give up. You give up to a salesperson to some relatively low price than you have initially imagined. You think it is worth more than that and it is surely. Few months later you see your car outside a shopping complex, and you meet the new owner. With a casual talk without telling anything, you ask how much he pay for the car. And he gives a value which rolls your eyes. Shamefully you go away thinking you missed the opportunity to earn some more cash. What happened? It happened as the price was not in the car, the price was attached to the mental object of the car. Really speaking there is a branch of finance which is called behavioral finance as the real-world decisions we make are inherently attached to the values of our mental objects. Not only in finance, but we can also generalize this idea to any other value given to mental objects, if you closely think about it, whenever we create a mental object, we give a price tag to it. It may be a religion, mathematic equation, a goal for next year, a relationship or friendship. The following characteristics of mental objects are also applicable to these price tags naming, values are unique to each individual. values change over time. What is the Advantage of knowing this? I would say it is essential to understand where our values come from as each and every action and decision making, every and gain and loss in our lives come from values we assign. Hence the happiness as well as sadness, pain and pleasure inherently bound to the values. Anyone who wish to live a mindful life, this information may help to overcome some of the problems if not all. Thank you for reading Where do our values come from? - mental representation. - Is being selfish a bad thing?
What is selfishness? In the Merrium Webster dictionary it is defined as, the quality or state of being selfish: a concern for one's own welfare or advantage at the expense of or in disregard of others: excessive interest in oneself. We blame others for being selfish. And often we look at ourselves and feel bad about being selfish. But selfishness, is still a mystery, after reading the article you would gather around enough knowledge about to live with it than feeling guilty. Consider following examples. Imagine you in these situations and think whether you feel guilty feeing of selfishness. Imagine an airplane advertisement which request you to put on face mask yourself first in case of an emergency before attending to your child. Imagine a businessman who buy rice harvest from village farmers and stores it until prices goes up and makes a profit out of it. Imagine your friend who recently broke up with the partner is carrying on his/her activities without any remorse. Imagine you are in a wrecked ship, it is sinking, you try to save your life racing against others jumping into a boat. How would you react to those situations? Would you feel that those people in above situations are selfish? How would you react if you were in such a situation? Would you be selfless? Now, let's go through above scenarios to understand selfishness. Why does airplane advertisement ask you to put on your mask first, before your loved ones. It cannot be just because you are more important than your child. We might label such an action as selfish, if taken in isolation if not backed by evidence. Obviously, chances of both you and your child making it alive are higher if you first take care of yourself first. It is selfishness, in its mildest form doing good. What about the businessmen? Surely, he does not care about giving farmers a fair value. He is solely focused on his growth in wealth. However, it is evident that harvest like rice doesn't come in abundance throughout the year. Someone have to store it and distribute when there is no harvest. This will prevent famine and hunger. Really speaking, civilizations may have not progressed in the past, if it is not for storage of food. Does that mean selfishness is essential for future of development? Selfish acts of individuals have done more to prevent poverty and famine in the civilization than donations - Adam smith. How about your selfish friend? Would you rather be with a depressed friend who cannot get over with guilt and sadness, or with a friend who is always happy no matter what. Yet you would judge them as heartless and selfish? The final example is very difficult to explain, only one who have been in such situation, would know what you have done. When it comes to life and death, it is very unpredictable what we would do. I really am not sure whether I would be a saint or a selfish. Yet how can we judge. We can imagine, but that is not the truth. But how can anyone else judge, when they are not in the same situation? Conclusion It is absurd to think about everyone to be selfless if we are aiming for a better civilization as selfishness itself is a driving force for survival of individual hence the society. - What is it like to become a millionaire?
Once a wise man said, if you are a human, either you should be wealthy or attain peace with spirituality. Recently I had a question from my friend, who asked me, Imagine you can start your life back again with all the knowledge you have now, vs having a million dollars. It let me think, my answer was well, I would choose million dollars. Then I thought about it over days and came to conclusion that I would do otherwise. Here I will discuss a life if I would get a million dollars now, vs, If I restart life with knowledge. And my conclusion. What will happen If I get a million dollars. Currently I do not have anything to invest a million dollars. So, I will have to discuss with some investors how I am going to invest that money. I am not stupid to think spending a million dollars in rest of my life would do any good to me or anyone around. It is clear I can quit my job and even without investing I would be able to live reasonably well. There will be a lot of work to be done to keep the million dollars safely or maintain as it is over time. This will be an additional work to my current job. Buying car, a house, or a boat would not be a great way to spend it either. Essentially, I would not quit anything I am currently doing now. Think about it, it will be an additional work to keep it safe, and it will give me more responsibility and more chances for me to lose it as well. There will be a lot of unnecessary attractions in the form of, taxes, friends, salesmen, more troubles. More importantly a million dollars cannot buy me happiness, love, caring friends, peace. No what it can do is just buy materialistic things. It is clear, I know why it cannot. When I think about the life backwards, it is clear I was happier when I was a child. When I didn't have desires for money, houses cars or even wealth. It was a small world with a rubber ball and pieces of wood and imagination. Happiness is there by itself. Matters are complicated now, and a Million dollars is going to complicate it too. On the other hand, If I could restart my life, I could have made better choices. When I chose at school. When I chose in the university, when I chose in life. Or I could have not chosen at all. I could have, chosen so I have better chance ending in happiness. These choices could have made me a millionaire by itself. With the momentum, that million dollars is going to create more happiness than the Million I am going to receive today. It is more likely to remain, and I would have more idea what to do with it. Even If I didn't, I would have ended with more peaceful solidarity. In conclusion, it is evident for me I would choose my knowledge and opportunity over a million dollars today. But what is the advantage of thinking about the million dollars which I do not have now! If you regret, not having a million dollars, like me earlier, you do not have to. Knowledge, time and happiness are more important than a million dollars. It is true, although at the first glance it doesn't seem so. After all what we are going to buy with a million is happiness. Second important thing I noticed is I am already having knowledge attitudes and happiness which is worth more than a million dollars, even if I cannot go back to the past and make it a start, what about future. I can choose more wise choices for the future; it doesn't matter I would or not become wealthy. I can choose to be happier! Would you? This is the poll I ran in my twitter profile. It was almost a tie. Although it was biased towards the latter choice. Thank you for reading: What is it like to become a millionaire? - Nature is really beautiful, or is it? Robert Frost.
You would not believe me when I say the nature is really beautiful and not. But, not only me Robert frost once said, but the nature is unforgiving and cruel. The interview is there on the internet, you may have a look. Would you believe Robert Frost, who had an eye for the beauty and a great admirer of nature to utter such words about our beautiful nature? The full moon in the cloudless sky Casted a silver reflection over the lagoon at night "The beauty of the nature", my friend sighed. He was happy content, delighted and satisfied. Then with a shudder, a cry of a mama bird pierced the darkness, And I sighed. In his interview Robert frost, says the nature is cruel giving the above example. He says the nature is cruel, as he heard the cry of the bird whose nest have been invaded and her sons and daughters are eaten alive by the snake. What would be our reaction if it happens to a human family? Maybe it really happened, before we became civilized. Maybe it will really happen if we let the nature to do its own control over us without our own rules. But why we were always taught that the nature is beautiful, kind and loving? Did our teachers teach that to us or is it just our own imagination? Birds sing, Lions are brave, butterflies are beautiful. We were taught from our childhood. We were never taught the birds cry of hunger, to share a worm. Lions are cruel killing their own pups, while butterflies try to hide from birds with their wonderful colors to trick to not being eaten alive otherwise. Nature may be cruel after all. But what use we will have if we label nature as cruel. I will be less popular among, millions who believe otherwise. Maybe I can change a million minds to think that the nature is cruel. But, I would not make that mistake. I would not label nature as beautiful as I labeled in the past. I would not label nature as Robert Frost did. I would refuse to label anything and just let it be as it is. True nature. Without judgement. What would you think about nature? - Statue of David - Michelangelo- mindfulness
Have you ever visited Michelangelo's famous statue David? It fascinates me how a human can create intricate details on a heartless stone that can still prevail over centuries, to tell us a story. It is not only true for Michelangelo, but there were also a plenty of talented human individuals, in the past and will be there in the future, so our lives are never monotonous. How are sculptures made? Building from nothing There are two ways to build a sculpture. The more common and frequently used way is to make a mold first and pour some material. Or similarly we can build a frame and stepwise make the sculpture by adding more material and shaping it. We can call it building out of nothing. Whenever we think about building something we tend to think about this method of adding things to previous base. Carving out of something The opposite way of creating a sculpture is by carving. It is somewhat similar but this time you are carving out unnecessary parts of previous chunk of material. It may be a marble, a concrete or piece of rock. Chip by chip. It seems that it is more difficult and delicate procedure as you have to know exactly what to remove. Removing too much, one hammer strike too strong can destroy years of work and make it a piece of failure. You may wonder what this has to do with mindfulness. I would say everything. This is a great analogy to understand our mindful practices. Whenever we think about mindfulness, we tend to think like a building out of nothing method of a sculpture artist. We try to create something out of whatever we have. We try to create a peace. We have high hopes. Yet, mindfulness is like creating the statue of David by Michelangelo. Think about it. Statue of David was already in the giant piece of marble. All Michelangelo did was remove all pieces of marble which did not belong to "David". Similarly. peace and everything we try to achieve are already inherently present within ourselves. Sadly, it is all covered by unnecessary pieces of marble. So, it is a slow process and intricate process to take out all the unwanted marble to bring out the "David" within us. The stone was carved chip by chip, by Skillful hands of immortal artist It wasn't clear Until he declared, An angel was born to averse, the feted darkness of the city square. Heven was hidden in a heart of a stone. Every eye jumped in a gaiety tone. Angel still prevails artist long gone. Thank you for reading. - Waves of the sea, waves of life- lessons
Let's start by talking about waves of the sea. I have to confess; I am from the mountains. Not from the shore at all. So, sea, and its waves always fascinated me. Even as an adult, I become a kid in front of the sea. When I go to the beach it is always a novel experience. The Sea waves are making its song, ever so as it has been, till eternity. Often, I keep watching under a shade, just observing. It clears the mind, and thoughts often are washed away. An occasional boat, or a walker, makes it even interesting. Even if it is not, I really enjoy watching boring waves. A walk on the beach- Poem from the book from the past to the future? One day I had a walk on the beach, With my daughter on my shoulders. My feet dug deep into the sand as I walked. On halfway I looked back. Most of my footsteps washed away, No trace, fresh sand covered footsteps, Waves crashed as ever. Then I realized, That I had no past, I had no future, And I cannot harvest the power of now. It is too fast! Explanation The book is concise; hence I have not given detailed explanation on what the poems in it means. That is what the blog is for. You may have read the book the "Power of now" by Echarte Tolle. He popularized the idea about insights gained when he noticed that he has only now to live. As past is already gone, the future not yet come, Now seems to be the only rational way to live. But in this poem and in the book, what is time, I would like to point out the fact that this is also an erroneous idea. As we cannot exactly define the now. You will find more details on this in the article "To catch the happiness before it hides." Characteristics of waves As we all know, waves are the ones which keep the beach alive and attractive, among many others. If you stay long enough on the beach, watching long enough you would see the patterns of waves. There are few facts about waves. Following are my observations. You may have different ones. After a while, waves lose their magic in them, I see they are monotonous. Some are small, some are rough and reach far inland, it's really unpredictable when it does. More the sea retracts, bigger the wave. Whatever the wave comes ashore, goes back to the sea. How about waves of life? Can we apply what we have learned about sea waves to life? Let's try. Waves can be compared with events, thoughts, happiness and sadness we feel. Waves of the sea, waves of life- Lessons learnt. Lesson 1 Dull waves After a while everything lose their charm. (you cannot listen to the same song even if it is best in the world). You will lose interest on your own bright ideas, things will be monotonous and boring. How are you getting way from this? Trust me I have experimented with this in the past. I have listened to the same song Just as an experiment. More insights from this experiment were written in this article, What I have I learnt by listening to the same song? Lesson 2 Buoyancy Generally, things happen in our lives are predictable. There are little ups and downs. But occasionally drastic things happen like a big wave and surprise us. It washes us away and break the cycle of our lives. Maybe today, maybe tomorrow, maybe in years to come. But it will come. Compare your life to a Buoy floating on the sea, there are ups and downs when there are waves pass beneath us. Can you stay sill on the sea surface? It will be really impossible. Even if you are on a huge cruise ship, there will be occasional shudders and shakes. That is part of the life. Lesson 3 Tsunami waves -rebound phenomena Have you watched the videos of tsunami? In 2004 Indian ocean tsunami, or 2011 Japan Tsunami, sea retracted hundreds of meters back from the beach before coming crashing back at the ground in enormous force and huge waves. Generally, bigger the retraction of the sea, bigger the waves which will follow. Although this is true for smaller waves, we do not notice it. We see this phenomenon, even in our lives. If you bet higher, risk of losing is higher. If you jump higher the fall is also high. And if you are attached to something more, crave more, loss will be more painful. This doesn't mean we shouldn't try. But be prepared if you do. Lesson 4 Tsunami of thoughts I can see, the beaches battered from Tsunamis are back to normal. People lost lives and their property, but they are back at their homes. The sea, when I look at is like ever before. There is no sign of horror, instead calm and peace still prevail in abundance. Nature has healed the wounds and recovered. More importantly what about Tsunamis in your mind? Even if there is a big wave, you lose money at a casino, or you fall down a slope, lose a loved one. This is not the end. The wave will go back to the sea. Where it came from, given enough time. And things will settle with a new balance. It is the rule of the nature. In summary: Waves in life and thoughts in mind are generally monotonous, Ups and downs are inevitable. Occasionally there will be big Tsunamis, however they will also eventually flatten out and pattern will repeat up until end. Let's be thankful to the sea teaching lessons of life, and happy wave watching. Waves of life, Poem by Guest @wFozStories It comes in waves we tell our friends who cry at graves. As you start to feel better out of the blue eyes turn redder. A song, a place, a photo of a smiling face. It’s not something to outsmart. Just ride the waves. It means love lives on inside your heart. You may also like reading: Story of the boy, the dog and mathematics On phone addiction- How do we get hooked?
- Philosophical insights to the near-death experience.
This is a follow up to the article, to near death experience in an airplane. Few questions arise from near death experience are, Is it evidence to afterlife is prevailing? How near-death experiences occur? How near-death experiences changes life? Imagine a typical scenario of near-death experience. Imagine someone in a hospital, with a medical condition and suddenly stopped heart function. After several hours of extensive effort his heart is reverted, and he is back to life. After waking up, he describes what he has undergone. He may explain the experience as an outer body experience, or travelling through lights and waiting to enter, sometimes they may explain bad experiences like going through darkness. How can we explain above experiences? We will understand this as two scenarios. Imagine your life is like a room. And afterlife is next room. Near death experience may be that you have left your room, entered the next room and due to some reason came back to your room again. In this scenario, it is true it will represent afterlife. In the second scenario, you never left the room and just bumped into the door, you didn't see the other side, but just saw the door. It doesn't prove that there is another room at all behind that door. Really speaking, most of scientists and philosophers believe this is the most likely explanation to near death experiences. It may be due to extreme chemical fluctuations they had during such episodes. So we have some answers to first two questions. Maybe near death experience is not evidence of after life Maybe it is just because of chemical fluctuations, after all you are never "dead" as you wake up after near death. More importantly how near-death experiences change life? It is a common to see near death experiences changes the most of lives of such people who have experienced that. Markedly and so often. These transformative effects of near-death experiences are not explained by chemical fluctuations. However, if you followed my previous article you would know, there is no need to have gone through the process of dying or near-death for these transformative effects to occur. As even having a vasovagal attack and thinking I am in the process of dying, created some transformative thoughts in me. It seems they are merely psychological. Looking through the window of the empty tower I cannot see beyond the horizon, Where water lilies flower Crimes of the past when they haunt me an every hour. Curled on the floor when they bleed. sweet memories I savored. Similarly, we should think if such death is inevitable, how we should live our life? What is a life well spent? How to understand platonic Love? Thank you for reading philosophical insights to near-death experience.
- A question/problem is a missed opportunity to question itself.
You may disagree, to the above phrase. Yet you are reading this as you are curious. Why? Lets be practical. Let's think about the question "Why are you reading this article?" A question/problem is a missed opportunity to question itself In simple terms there are different reasons for different people to read this article. Some may have guided by my previous posts. Curious what I have to say. Some, just landed here because of a random google algorithem recommended it. Some may be just looking for something else, a thought for savouring. So answers to the above question can be : curious because of previous posts random google algorithem brought you here looking for a thought for savouring ... ... There are many more answers. Now let's look at what we have done. We had a question -> we searched for answers. That is the traditional way of looking at a question. That is how we were taught from our kindergarden. From our early days wherever we come from. Maybe its a shitty trailer in some abandoned park, or a mansion in a reknowned town, our elders taught us how to look for answers our questions. For thousands of years! Now lets look at the other way. We have a question -> question the question. Let's try. Beware ! it is going to sound crazy but it will lead to some insights about life. Level 1 "Why are you reading this article?" -> why did it become a question/problem for me? ( I did not have that question/problem before I start reading this article. Obviously up until you asked such a stupid question I was fine ! ) Level 2 Ok obvously it became a problem only when I got involved by reading this article. If I never read this article it will never be a problem to me. Obviously only few from billions around the world have kept their foot on this rabbit hole. Why am I such stupid? (another question let's skip this) Level 3 Something becomes a problem only when I become aware of it. But, can I be not aware of anything? Can you see? With only few steps you have become a great Philosopher of the century. (A joke ) You can use this trick whenever you have a problem. Trust me try it and it is fun. You will look like a fool only if you start speaking about it with others. So, keep it only within yourself. (LOL) maybe you can give a comment when you get suprising answers. After a while you will see a pattern and you will see where all the problems arise and the reasons for all our problems. Then only we can think about solving the problem of life. - Sky is the limit, or is it?
You may Have heard the term the sky is the limit. It is a great quote to inspire us to achieve our goals. There is another saying, "Aim for the sky, and you will at least get caught in the clouds." Here are some interesting stories about sky and clouds. These are not big stores which gives you thousand ideas. Also, messages are not small. Never forget to look at the sky, When you are in the park Or going for a walk Or just before sneaking into the store Or stepping into your car. My childhood is written there, I wonder where yours is. (Story about kites that fly and don't.) Sky is a beautiful place, sometimes it is blue like the sea, like a polished sapphire. From this corner to that corner. Sometimes there is moon. Faint but visible, and big enough too. Sometimes the sky is cloudy. Different patterns, pattern less. Cirrus, Stratus, Cumulus. And even different colors. And sometimes it is Gloomy, and Stormy angry and thundering. Some skies are colorful. golden and red, pink and orange, with occasional rainbow to make it interesting. So, what? Can we just look at the sky without getting angry or sad, happy or joy, as it is nature of the sky is to change. Sky itself teaches us how we should look at our lives. Read about Waves of life here. Clouds: Once you have seen the clouds from the top, at 33000 feet from the ground, They no longer appear mighty, from below anymore. I wonder voyager would say, same for us. Sometimes it is difficult to see our lives in another person's perspective. Hence, we always see the world from only our perspective. How difficult is it to see the world someone else's point of view. I would say, it is impossible. We can imagine what is it like to see the world from someone else's mind, just by reading or listening to someone. Yet, this is not exactly to be that person. Hence, we would never know. We all agree we see things same. We all agree an apple is sweet. Yet we would never know it is sweet for you as same as it is sweet for me. You may read about clouds and mindfulness here. - The nature of our greed, and jealousy. - story
Let's understand a basic feature about greed and jealousy, with some stories. Story 1. When I was a schoolboy, I used to do relatively well in academics, (of course I failed at anything else, couldn't sing, couldn't dance, couldn't do well in sports) Yet, I was among first few in the class each year. I used to sit in different places in the class as well. So, whenever there is no one else, I would sit there. I had a friend who did only average in the studies. One day I asked him. "Do you feel jealous about me?" I don't know why I did ask such a question. I was curious. I wanted to know his point of view towards me. I wanted to know what it is like to do average in the studies. And his answer surprised me. He said, "Not at all. I don't feel jealous about you. Actually, I don't feel anything about you doing well. But when I get exam results, I am more worried about other children who are at my average level. I would feel jealous if someone who scored less than me before, passed me this time. " His answer amazed me to this day. And I was glad he wasn't Jealous. Story 2. You may have heard about this story, at least some form of it. Think about following scenario. A man driving a Rolls Royes sees a jet and think to himself "Hmm, I wish I could travel in a private Jet." A man driving a regular car sees the Rolls Royes and thinks "Hmm, I wish I could drive a Rolls Royes" A man driving a motorcycle thinks "Hmm, I wish I could buy a car." A man cycling to work thinks "If only I could buy a Motorcycle." A man who walks by thinks " I wish I had a bicycle." A man on a bench without legs think "Oh, I wish I could walk again." It seems that the man who walks is likely to think about a motorcycle than a private jet. And it is more likely he would be jealous about someone buying a motorcycle or a car. Someone who is living in his social level. Similarly, we are more likely to be jealous about people who are at our "level" than anyone else. It seems absurd, if we think that jealousy solely depend on the level. It depends on where we are on that scale as well. Similarly, greed follows similar rules, as greed precedes jealousy. If you see closely, that seems to be the reason, as explained by my friend he had no issue being my friend, without feeling jealous. What does this teach us? Imagine you hear some news about people fighting with each other for a bag of rice in a rural underdeveloped part of the world. It seems tragic at first. But you can understand, the bag of rice is as valuable as a car, if you compare it with your society. You will fight for a bag of rice if you were in that situation. Next problem is even if you travel through your social or whatever the ladder according in your measurement, greed and jealousy will prevail. It will also climb up the ladder unless you understand that it happens. So, it will provide an opportunity to look at ourselves, and correct us, at any level. Unless we will never be satisfied. Thank you for reading: The nature of our greed and jealousy story. You may also like to read: How to create a statue- mindfulness. To catch the happiness before it hides (poem)
- What is there great beyond? Afterlife. Sausage Party
I was watching Sausage Party the other day. An animation film with dark humor, if you haven't already watched. For those who haven't watched I have to give a summary to explain one scene which made me think. Film is about food in the supermarket, living their own lives thinking that they have a life filled with happiness and joy beyond supermarket doors. The humans or their "Gods" choose them to go beyond and give them a life of their imagination. There is a scene in the film where the sausage meets some wise items who are "non expiring", and they discuss the "great beyond " is a lie that they themselves generated to reduce the sadness and chaos otherwise would prevail if food understood the truth. This let me think about life and death. It seems whoever wrote the plot of the Sausage Party did think about it as well. We generally think the life beyond death is Either good or evil. Yet if we stick to facts, there is no absolute evidence for either of them. So, we have to imagine each one is equally possible. We ourselves have to think individually. Otherwise, we will be singing all the old songs our ancestors sang. There is a chance they created those songs, so they feel better when we face the death beyond. Let's think about each in turn, consider following scenarios, Everyone gets a happy ending after death. Everyone gets a sad ending after death. Death is the end of everything as we know it. What comes after death is consequence of what we do today. External force will help us to become great after death. You can be creative and add more. I will stick to these simple thoughts and discuss what we should be doing. Please drop all your prejudices if you wish to read beyond this point. Trust me I have my own believes, yet I like to forget all this and be rational and rational only. Scenario 1,2,3 If first second and third are true, there is nothing to worry. Whatever we do today the outcome for each of our action is fixed no matter what. It is good right? Yes of course, it is good only if we know one of them is true. Trust me I have not come across such evidence to say so. If I would ever find out, the search would end, and I will write it here so you don't have to look for it and we all can be happy or sad. Scenario 4 Imagine the fourth one is true. Our actions determine what happens to us after death. This is an equally possible scenario. If this is possible, we really have to be careful what we do in this life. Otherwise, we are doomed. What we should do and avoid you already know. Our ancestors taught us. But if we look at the world, you will see different ancestors taught us different good and bad things. One action which is correct in one part of the world is wrong in the other part. Scenario 5 If this is true it is great news. All we have to do is do whatever we like and get that external help on the specific way. But if you are rational, this is an equally possible scenario. There is a chance this could be wrong as well, as all of the others. More importantly if you believe in this too much it can clash with scenario 4. You will see this as a loophole to escape consequences of your actions. So, how are you going to decide what to do? You may ask. Think about each scenario and give equal weight to each one of them. Then think about yourself and you will have the answer. Unfortunately, I am not capable of deciding for yourself. Thank you for reading: What is there great beyond? Afterlife.
