  • On Embracing Emptiness

There was a boy, on a bench in a park. Sitting like a statue in bronze, his eyes glazed with a spark. And he stared and stared with emptiness in his heart. Although there were plenty to make a start. He could have kicked from his feet, when the ball rolled. He could have smiled when she looked back that pretty girl, when she strolled. He could have spoken, shout or sing, nobody kept him on hold. And I embraced the emptiness he shared without any words. • The last mile home.

The old man got off from the bus. The sun was heavy burning everything down. There were no clouds to shade. No trees nearby, and he didn't even look up. He hurried towards a faraway tree, to rest before starting again for the long walk to his home. By the time he reached the tree, two big globs of sweat started to fall down from his sides over his cheeks. He swept them away with a napkin. A napkin which was old, looks older than himself. That old piece of cloth reminded him of his wife. Since the year she passed away the napkin went with him, everywhere he went. He leaned the tree closed his eyes; rest was there for a few minutes. He wasn't the energetic man he was few decades before. Yet, he wasn't dependent, still with strong arms, although they lost half of their power, his muscles were like strong fibers made of iron. There is enough evidence to say how much he has been a hard worker. He started the walk home, there was only a mile to go. The mile he took ever since he bought the land. The land since it became his land. The land which was rich in everything. There was water, fertile soil, that kept growing everything he saw. The land which was filled with happiness, with his children running laughing, playing around the house he built with his late wife. It took them five years of hard work to complete the house ground up. Yet he was happy when he saw the children growing in the house. Forty-five years of memory behind that land, he was thinking, and still he could hear the laughter of his children, in his mind. And he hurried home. He took the brown dusty rusty road, away from the main, which penetrated deep into the country alongside wild bush. Few houses here and there came to vision on his long walk home. These houses, he could see just as his, forty years ago, men, women children, he could see. Some of the men, were friends of his children, when they were there. And everyone in the mile down the road, knew him, respected him and stopped by him for a chat, a word or two, and they had gratitude for the old man. But today, he hurried, he didn't want to meet anyone on the road. He didn't want to have a chit chat with Neighbours. There was something changed in his manner, something dramatic about his old, hurried walk. He walked halfway down the road, occasionally he met a man on a cycle, ringing the bell, saying hello. He just smiled with a lump in his throat and carried on. Carried on the same old road, same same walk that he took every day. Same old walk he took his children to the school, Same old walk he carried his wife when she fell down bitten by a snake. Same old walk he carried her dead body from the hospital to his home. And faster his footsteps, faster became his heartbeat, faster his thoughts came crashing down from the past. By the time he was halfway, he crossed the stream and there were two big globs of tears filling the empty sunken eye sockets and started getting bigger and bigger every footstep. He was never a crying man, he did not cry when she left him ten years ago. Those tears, were there ever since, she was buried on the patch of land by the home. He smiled to himself, when finally tears came flying down on the sun burnt road. They just evaporated to the air, like water on a frying pan. He didn't know how he walked the rest of the way home. He was walking only in his mind. He remembered his children, well educated, well respected, who left his home one after the other, leaving them ever since. They are far away, and he couldn't leave the land, his home, his wife and join the prospects and adventures of his own children. He was too stubborn for that, there was no happiness, his home is still in his mind, in his mind his children are still there playing as ever, eternally. His wife still waiting home as she has ever been waiting. In his mind trees still bloom around his house and, life still there. Yet, it is not true. He was there now, in front of his house. It looks like an abandoned house. He is the only one living there. It is kept tidy, yet empty. There is no reason, to paint the old walls, there is no-reason to battle with the weed which tries to gulp the backyard. The evergreen forest was counting hours to engulf and reclaim his land. Even though one corner he kept well away from the forest, cleaned and cleared from every weed, where his wife is, still waiting. His feet took him there. He sat down in tiredness. Tiredness he has never felt, he was so tired that he felt his heart stopped for a moment. And he remembered what his doctor told him before he left the hospital. "I am so sorry father, you have a terminal cancer, and we are unable to operate, it has gone everywhere in your body." Thank you for reading, the last mile home. • How to create the best outcome for life? Mathematical Function

Do you want to know what creates the best outcomes for your life? Let's imagine you don't and try to figure out this problem. So, what is the best way? First, we will see what the meaning of best outcome is. Then we will examine an analogy to understand the variables involved in producing best outcomes. And finally, strategy or formula to do that so. What is the best outcome a person could have from his life? Happiness, a satisfaction, a feeling of accomplishment? Whatever it is, most of us will come out with a non-physical object. A feeling, maybe a calmness, peace or hope. And mind you, this outcome that we expect from our lives, can be markedly variable. Of course, greatly influenced by our culture, religion, ethnicity and many other believes. Outcome -> is a feeling (which is interpreted by a thought) Next task is to think about how this outcome is generated. The best example is to look the similarity from a function. If you work in mathematics, you know what a function means, really speaking it doesn't matter which field you are in, as we use functions in every field. Imagine you are a software engineer, relate this to a function written in C. Imagine you are working in a coffeehouse; you can relate to a coffee machine. Basic structure of a function is as follows. Input -> (function) -> output. The inside of a function is often not clear to us. Mathematicians would know exactly what is going on in each step when they evaluate their inputs from a function. Eg : following is a simple mathematical function. f (x) = 2x + 1 for input x=1, f (1) = 2 (1) +1 = 3 output =3 for input x=2, f (2) = 2 (2) +1 =5 output =5 More importantly when functions are getting more complicated, we would not know what is going on inside, but the input and the return or the output is only visible to us. This is true for most of the programming functions or even the Coffee machine. We just click some buttons and function inside the coffee machine does the magic and your Capuchino is ready to be served. This is data Encapsulation (link) in action. Eg : function in a program in python def mathfunction(x): return 2x + 1 (Here I have defined the above math function using def keyword and mathfunction as the function name, the user of the function simply can "call" the function with input value and it will output) mathfunction(1) >>>3 mathfunction(2) >>>5 Similarly, we are complex, it seems we do not know exactly how a thought is generated. Often, we can see that our inputs we get from our sense organs. And next moment we are thinking about it. These inputs can be coming from our past memories as well. Now, Is it really important to know what the coffee machine is made of to generate a good hot coffee for you? I would say it doesn't. If the best outcome for life is a sense of accomplishment, I would say only variable we can change is what information goes into the machine. As that is the only way we can make a good coffee. Fortunately, or unfortunately, we do not access to the machine language. So practically if we want best outcomes, we need to change what input information that we feed in daily. And this insight will help us to live a fulfilled life. It may be books, lectures, or good friends, if your life hasn't been good so far. It's time to learn a new subject and see the outcome. Choose wisely what you are going to input into your machine. Thank you for reading How to create the best outcome for life? • Summer Dandelions

Caught up in breeze, dandelions begin a journey in summer. Freshly found wings, first took them high into the sky. Together they flew above the bushes, and high grass. Looking for a suitable land away from home. Some, ended up on trees, some on leaves. Some landed on water and drowned indeed. Some never took off, couldn't break away from pods. Dried up by the sun, some never got succeed. Yet there were some, hugged the soil at the end. Just enough water, enough sunlight they needed. On roots they stood up, stemmed high above the ground. To rise up and against the other weed. They cherished the success and, over the perished, they didn't weep. Story: Summer dandelions the poem was inspired when the dandelions were seen floating adrift in the air blown away from their pods by the winds as observed from a park bench. It reminded of all the people I have met in school. We all were blown away from our summer breeze like dandelions. Separated, from each other, Isolated by the forces of nature we all took a journey of our own. How many of us made it till the end to become "successful"? This is a tribute to all who fell, onto the unfertile soil. And it's all part of the nature. You may also like to read: What is a life well spent? • Beside A Waterfall - awareness

Never liked taking photos. Never liked videos. Illusion of capturing the moment Never gave satisfaction, When it didn't and couldn't Represent as it is. But here I'm tweeting now. After 11 years of sleep. Beside a waterfall, where a crowd gathered. To take a nice photo and show it to the world. Stayed in patience Emerged in silence. Till last one of them returned to where they came And absorbed the beauty into myself. On a misty mountain heaven Carved the serenity unleashed, in red blood cells. After decades, it is still Flowing. Have you ever been to see a waterfall? Most of us would have, and it doesn't have to be a waterfall after all to understand the irony I am going to talk about. Now try to close your eyes and imagine what you have seen, heard and felt during such a time. Is it hard to do? Then of course you may have been distracted by taking photos and chatting with your friends during such times. "If you are aware, you are not there, no point in being there!" Is something I was taught some time back early in my career. However, that gives a negative aspect, often I find that I am not aware. But the truth is knowing that we are not aware is the first step in being aware. So, I have changed it myself to "If you are aware, you are not there, Well done! now you are aware!" The best trick I have learned to be enjoying something simple as a waterfall, a sky or a tree, is to stop myself from doing anything else. Stop talking about what you see, stop taking photos, stop doing or thinking about it how to build a nice hotel or a retirement home beside it! Stop moving, slow down so your breathing will slow down. See what you see as it is, you will see the colors, listen what you hear as it is, you will hear the birds appear and disappear, and it will make the best image in your memory. Which will not decay for years. Not only that there will be wisdom tree growing in you so, but you can also face battles in life with fierce. • Science of nature.

I attended a science class once together with my friends. We had great teachers who were the best at our times. Taught about experiments and nature of cause and effects. Started with hypothesis, controls and of observations. We were small kids, innocent, fragile, and agile. Did not know we were controls of our society, for a while. Halfway through our lives when we realized. Teachers were not there, so we had to hypothesize. Years pass by trees grow and die, Animal colonies rise and succumb to demise. Great experiment of nature already in front of our eyes It's power of observation, which will save us our lives. Story of the Old Monk and the student. There was an old monk who was considered as wise among his students of generations. He used to take a walk-in afternoon in forest paths. This was a ritual. And one student, the best student was allowed to come with him in this walk, but there was a rule. For the entire journey there should be no dialogue, no questions, only walking. Every student who came back from a walk with him talked about amazing experience they had with nature. And one day, one student of his took the walk with him. As they approached a mountain slope, he saw the amazing view of a sun setting in west and twilight making bright patterns on sky and forest canopies, mesmerized by the beauty he said "Ah! what a beautiful scenery!" Once they came back, he was never invited to the walk again. (too harsh for a punishment). But as you can understand the moral of the story. When we pass our judgements over what we see, then we really cannot see what it is, we are just painting a layer of imagination over it. Let's stop trying to be monks and listen to a science geek. He would say science is all about experimentation. What do we do in experiments? We identify relationships between cause and effects. But nature has started an experiment for us. If observation is the tool of science, I invite you to observe the nature, as we all are controls of this great experiment! Thank you for reading Science of nature. • Magnificent Phoenix and Night full of Music

It's time for a magnificent Phoenix to appear on my wall. Tweeting and inviting for a poet and an artistic soul. To become the twenty as there is plenty, to share in this magical world. When the moon disappeared, gobbled by the clouds. Darkness appeared, couldn't see in an out. By the Order of the Phoenix, flew down to bailout. With the music, to ears, after his guitar workout, And rocked the silent night, without a doubt. Music flooded like a river in monsoon. Filled the cup of joy in an empty afternoon. Kept the fans waiting eager for more and more tunes. Epic atmosphere here no secondary to in Dunes (2021 film) Thank you for reading Magnificent Phoenix and night full of music. The poem was written when I had only about 19 followers in my twitter account. Hence, it was a great feeling when there was a twentieth follower. The twitter account was old as 2012. However, I have never used it until last September. After writing my first book I wanted someone to read it. Hence, twitter was reactivated. Now, after few months when I look back, I see it different. Now, those small things have lost its value. This leads the question, how our values are generated? Which you can read here in the article. • The town mouse and the country mouse.

It's a famous story originated from Aesop's Fables, from ancient Greece. Since we had built our cities there had been a clash in typical country life with, less resources, struggles of finding enough entertainment, compared to easy going city life with wealth. However, that truly would not represent the true nature of the country life versus the city life in modern world as boundaries are less distinct nowadays as the infrastructures have brought the gap between country and the town much closer. In the original story the town mouse who visits the country mouse was treated with simple meal of 'country cousin', followed by the invitation of the town mouse to his host for a visit to feel the 'Devine life of the city'. For which of course the country mouse agrees, and the as the story goes, the country mouse came to know the mother and the father of the town mouse were killed by an attack of the cat, and in the town, there is frequent threat of the sudden similar attacks from the cat. So, the country mouse return home with fear. There have been different versions of the story over time, with additions and new stories built around the original. Since the original wisdom which was brought by the old story is no longer there. We tell our children that the country mouse was attacked by an owl, when he walked on the countryside to bring some horror to the country life as well. It seems our city dwelling fathers and mothers couldn't answer if the children if they asked why they are not living in the country anymore and feared they would go back in searching happiness in the country life after all. It is true that the country life is difficult hard and monotonous, however, that is the same as everyone else. In the country the Neighbours struggle together. City life is free, opportunities are more with excitement, of course there are still poor and not so good living conditions although how much city authorities tried to hide. So, which one to choose? The city or the country? Of course, there is no correct answer, lets imagine we have group of people who prefer city life over the country life 99% of the time. And if there are 100 people in the group, can you say the city life is better than the country life as a general statement? We are distinct individuals and what is correct for 99% of our society may not be correct for ourselves. So, I think it is individual decision, and not independent of time. As there are more and more examples, 99.99% of us live quite ordinary lives which were influenced by others. If it changes your life, if it changes your perspective, it is better to try both of them. Afterall, if the country mouse stayed in the country and town mouse stayed in the town, there would have been no story for us to tell. Thank you for reading "The town mouse and country mouse." • What is the message of "The Picture of Dorian Grey?"

The picture of Dorian Grey is a great masterpiece novel by Oscar Wild, which I had my hands on when I was in school. I loved the character of Dorian Grey so much, that when he destroyed his valuable picture and himself at the end, it left and empty sadness, which I can still remember. Is it the sad truth about all of us pictured here by #OscarWild? If it is not Hedonism, which we should follow, then what is it? Is it Abstinence? Let me give you a background to the novel, to the reader, who has read the novel a long time ago. So, you can follow the thought process. For others, who are fresh with memory, you can skip the plot. Story: It is a story of a young man named Dorian Gray, whose portrait was painted by artist Basil Hallward. Dorian becomes obsessed with his own beauty and youth and wishes that he could remain young forever, while the #portrait ages in his place. As Dorian indulges in a life of disinhibited pleasures, he becomes increasingly cruel and corrupt, although he doesn't represent it from outside, his picture shows his horrible self, by changing its appearance over time. And finally, after years, Dorian decides to restore the picture but, ending up his own life in doing so... Message: What is the message Oscar Wild wanted to give us? We can argue that he was just telling a story and there is no message in it. In which case we should stop arguing and thinking about the novel. But that is not our nature. Hence, we will look at Dorians' in our society and within ourselves. It is true that Pleasure, whether we like it or not, controls our lives. Remember when we cried asking for more candy when we were little? From that time onwards we were in a never-ending struggle to keep a steady income, to travel, to feel the pleasure of food and wine, and relationships. How can we be so sure, when we are greedy, when we act angry, that our picture is not painted with our actions? Is it what Mr. Wild is suggesting? That we all have a picture of our own drawn somewhere hidden in an empty room, re-painted with our every action? If it is not #hedonism (Pleasure determines what we should or not do) we should follow, Is it the opposite? Is it the abstinence from pleasures that we should follow? If so, to what extent should we follow that? Can we make our picture better if we donate all our wealth to the poor and live just with minimal necessary things needed for living. Should we really buy an expensive car, even if we had plenty of money to do, even after donating. Or should we avoid cars and use public transport instead, and is there a limit for being good? There are some insights for this question, we can get from the famous argument, which was put forward by Peter Singer in 1971, some 80 years after the publication of the Picture of Dorian Grey. In his essay "Famine Affluence and Morality" he argues that affluent people are morally obliged far more to donate resources to humanitarian deeds than what is considered normal. So, if you buy and expensive car instead of a normal one which is obviously needed for transport, you are helping to the death of some children somewhere in the world by not donating that money which we could have saved. So, we make our pictures dirtier by nature even something simple as not donating money. (Singer’s ‘famine relief argument’ and vegans.) Boundary between traditional good and evil is stretched nowadays more than ever when, bad is represented as good in disguise and even accepted by the society as norm. So we can question as is there a boundary at all. As an example, it is bad to watch someone's hands to be chopped in ISIS video- it is snuff, but it is not bad to watch a SAW movie. Latter is more accepted by the society but represent the same, killing someone for some reason. Horror is a genre on its own. Does it mean our insides get rotten, when we appear doing good from outside, even when is not obvious? So, it is true individually up to us to do whatever we desire with our resources. But I think the message from Oscar Wild is very clear that we should go back to our Attic from time to time and look at our picture and adjust our course of action before it becomes uncorrectable. Thank you for reading "Picture of Dorian Grey- what is the message" You may also like : Singers famine relief argument and vegans What is time - a novel understanding.

  • Story of the boy who lost his Dog and Mathematics (pattern recognition)

Story of boy and dog There was a boy, who reared a dog. Imagine your favorite kind of dog. One day he lost the dog. The dog was the dearest to him, so he was very upset as any pet lover would be, and he cried and cried for days, searched everywhere, after school. Even put-up flyers in the town. Eventually after few weeks he gave up. Then out of nowhere a girl appeared in his doorstep with his dog. It was found injured by the road and was rescued by the girl. They got to know each other and became friendly. She was very attractive and kind that they fell in love. And he was happy. Years went by and the boy was selected to a university as he excellence in his studies. He had to leave his hometown, but the girl broke up with him, instead of following him into the future, she chose otherwise. The boy became depressed for some time. But he was determined that he would become the best student in his university and boy! he did become. Story of Mathematics and pattern recognition The story goes on, you can write the rest of your own, but let's deviate from our story into a math lesson I learnt from our grade Eight math teacher. We had a very good math teacher who once said "mathematics, is all about pattern recognition". I did not understand, I knew it was something important, as I believed him. But we were so, involved in solving the problems faster than others, it was a just an utter for most of us. But I believed him. Mathemetics is all about patterns, and now after years later, when I understand that is the most important lesson, he had taught me. It's not only mathematics, "life is all about patterns." Pattern recognition Now it's time to go back to our story with the wisdom gained from my Late teacher (Sadly, he died in the school while at work of a heart Attack!) Is there a pattern to the story of the boy and dog? Let's analyze. First the boy was happy -> he had a dog. Then the boy was sad -> he lost the dog Next, he was happy -> he met a girl. After that he was sad -> he lost the girl Later he was happy again -> he became the best in the lot. Now the question is he was immediately sad after he lost the dog, but it started a happy sad never-ending cycle for him. If taken in isolation, the event of losing the dog is a sad occurrence. But if looked at it with wisdom, from our mathematics teacher, we see the pattern of life, which is like a wave with peaks and troughs. It is inevitable, nobody would remain permanently at one end of it. After all it is futile to hang on to either end as we move forward, and that would be the best prediction of the future, its going to change. I will end the story there and invite you to recognize patterns next time in your life, in the nature and in abstract paintings, and even thoughts. Have you seen the waves crash on the beach? Have you seen sunflowers follow the sun rays? Have you seen weddings and funerals on the same street? Have you seen kingdoms rise and fall over decades? Isn't it inevitable there is a fall, after we rise so tall? It makes me feel like a kid rocked on natures cradle. You may also like to read: Once upon a time story - a scarecrow

  • Carpe diem - The dead poet's society 1989.

"Carpe diem . Seize the day, boys. Make your lives extraordinary." The famous quote Carpe diem from the film the dead poet's society 1989, makes the 95th famous movie quote of all times. There are few great movies made into top 100 quotes including Titanic (1997) at the 100ths place. However above quote is so inspiring for anyone who have watched the movie. Even for someone who is not having any artistic talent it invites to become creative as we all inherit the creative abilities, although our current education systems, hinders and hides them. Directed by Peter Weir and written by Tom Schulman, main role of the film was played by famous actor Robin Williams (1951-2014), renowned actor who gives the life to the teacher 'John Keating'. As the plot of the story unravels, about Mr. Keating, who is so inspiring and novel, leaving behind all traditional classroom methods of teaching to bring out the rhythm of hearts of young group of lads, to synchronize with the beats of the nature. He asked the students to rip off their poetry books, instead to listen to the nature and follow their hearts, not be in fear to take paths less often taken by everyone else. In the heart of this group, equally inspired, few young boys restart a 'Dead poet's society', where they get together to recite, poems and find company in a novel adventure. Neil who is one of the main characters in the story, is taken the inspiration, into heights no one else have done, becomes an actor, instead of following dreams of his father laid upon him. It is tragic that the life of this young handsome boy with a bright future was ceased at the end by taking his own life, that he felt that there was no way out, and he could not seize the day anymore, as his teacher taught him. So, what is the moral of the story? Is it "trying to seize the day would end up killing some of us? ". Is it irrational to go against the norms of the society how much we are inspired by nature. After all, there is no conclusion, no argument, given at the end of the film. We are left with a void of feelings, and thoughts even after years since I have watched that film, I wonder what a wonderful life that boy could have lived if his life was spared. Of course, after all it is a drama. But dramas of this kind can happen from time to time in our lives. Leaving us in emptiness, in shock. Luckily for most of us, we are so much in fear of taking the radical route, we just follow everyone else, without thinking like in a national geographic documentary of Africa! Are you? What does your heart demand you should be doing? Write it down, draw it now, or sing it before you forget the words. It doesn't matter as, death is the only bad thing that can happen of it, and it will happen anyway for all of us. But I wonder whether doing that will bring happiness to hearts after all.
