Textbooks are different from a novel from following features. But not limited.

1. Usually, they are bigger.

2. Covers a subject comprehensively, with technical terms diagrams examples.

3. More difficult to read and to comprehend.

4. Dull and boring unless you are having some kind of a disease (otherwise you are normal)

Yet you know the value of reading a textbook.

If you can read and understand a textbook on your own. There is no need to go to lectures !

Having said that, it is difficult. Lectures help. You will know why. Simply because repetition is the key and learning the big picture helps.
